Another winner for the brows.

At this point, I'm pretty sure we're all familiar with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Pomade. It became such a cult classic because it's different from the usual brow products in the market. From what I've seen and read, the pomade is a great product to use because a little goes a long way, since it's creamy and very pigmented. It helps the user create hair-like strokes so you end up with natural looking filled brows instead of a shaded, block-looking pair. I am honestly intrigued with this product. I do want to try it and maybe I will, when I'm ready to shell out a Php1000+ with no qualms.

There are a lot of brow pomades in the market, thanks to the popularity of the Dip Brow. I've seen some and I've steered clear of others (honestly, they're already bordering on gel liner territory) but after swatching this product, I couldn't not buy it. It's just the perfect product for pomade amateurs like me.

Here I have the essence cosmetics' Eyebrow Gel Colour & Shape in 01 Brown. According to its product description, this product "perfectly forms and accentuates the brows. It leaves behind a pleasant, powdery finish and long-lasting results."

Texture-wise, the brow gel has stiff yet creamy texture. Stiff because it lacks that softness and creaminess ala gel liner yet creamy because it is very easy to blend. Am I even making sense? If you look at the pics, the product looks like a block. I've dented it yet it didn't have the same damage as a used gel liner. This is actually quite good because it prevents you from overly loading the brush you're using. I've read in some reviews that product's like a cream to powder pomade but personally, I don't have the same opinion. To me, it feels like cream; a thin, stiff one, yes, but still a cream through and through.

01 Brown in the perfect shade, in my opinion. It's one I've always been on the lookout for: cool-toned medium brown void of any red tones. It's such a good shade for brunettes and black haired gals because it doesn't make the brows look too dark and stark.

This brow gel has a thin, waxy consistency and has a sheer to medium opacity. Upon using this, I found that building is key. Don't try and force it to be opaque in one go because it just won't. The product also doesn't dry down instantly. That's good because you'll have time to erase and blend; a con is that it will move and appear blotchy if you layer it immediately. Once this product dries down, it won't move or budge. Trust me, I've worn this for almost 8-ish hours, and as long as it doesn't come in contact with liquids and if you don't rub it, it's there to stay. 

I tend to apply the product with a light hand because I prefer to build up the opacity slowly. It's not that hard to achieve because the brow gel is very easy to apply. As you can see, my brows still look like brows. They're not overly filled yet they have that clean and textured look. That's what I like about it. It doesn't look too obvious but it makes a subtle difference on the brows. I also like that it doesn't make the brow hairs crunchy and stiff. The product's lightweight and it's great on its own or as a base for a powder product.

essence's Eyebrow Gel may not be up to par with ABH's Dip Brow but it's still a remarkable product, especially for a drugstore brand. It's a good training product for those who'd like to try brow pomades first without breaking the bank. I know some won't like it because of its lack of opacity and stiff texture but I know some would appreciate that, especially beginners. I personally love this product, even more than my trusty powder brow duos. It's cheap, it's effective, it's natural-looking. What's not to love? (And it also prevented me from splurging, so there's that.)
