Payot Le Basique Hydratant Discovery Kit: Lait Micellaire Demaquillant
Micellar milk with raspberry extracts. Product 1 of 3.
Don't you just love the thrill of trying out new skincare products? Especially from brands you're unfamiliar with. I just love when I go in with low to nothing expectations then I get so impressed with a product's performance. Then I go rave about it over here. Haha!
Back in September, I received the Payot Le Basique Hydratant Discovery Kit from my sister. It's a small starter kit that's concentrated on moisturizing or hydrating. It contains a makeup remover, an exfoliating cream, and a moisturizer, all in cute travel-sized bottles. I must confess that I haven't heard of the brand Payot. All I know is that it's a French brand and we all know how French skincare are (they're top-notch.). So I think we're in good hands here.
(Note: I will be reviewing the products in three separate posts because I'm pretty sure if I reviewed them in just one post, it will be a very, VERY long one. I'm chatty like that.)
So for the first part, I will be reviewing the demaquillant aka the makeup remover.
Here we have the Lait Micellaire Demaquillant. The first step to skincare is, of course, removing your makeup. According to its product description, it's a "cleansing milk that removes make-up from the face without stripping the skin of its moisture. Its velvety texture leaves skin clean, soft and comfortable." It is also stated in the site that it is ideal for all skin types.
In this cleanser, the three primary active ingredients are Raspberry Extracts (help protect the skin from the harmful sun rays; has antioxidants that reduce the age spots and discoloration), Micelles (cleansers), & Hyaluronic acid (hydrates dry, aged skin; helps retain collagen, increase moisture, and provide elasticity and flexibility.).
This demaquillant is similar to a micellar water-type of cleanser, only this one has a rich milk texture and consistency. Definitely heavier than micellar water but just as gentle. This has a milky fruity-esque scent, one that I think isn't too strong.
I used this on a cotton pad to remove my waterproof mascara and it did a good job in removing the mascara off my lashes. It wasn't as instant as, say, a bi-phase cleanser. It did take a couple of rubs and gentle tugging to fully remove every trace but i didn't take me more than one cotton pad per eye. I've tried a couple of micellar water cleansers and I have to say, the Lait Micellaire Demaquillant is more effective than those. It gets the job done faster but of course, it can't fully compete with bi-phase makeup removers.
I find this very gentle, in spite of its texture. It didn't sting my eyes nor turn my eyesight hazy or blurry. I love that it instantly made my skin feel soft and smooth. It didn't feel greasy on the skin but it did leave a very thin film on the skin that may have been the moisturizing aspect of it. It felt like moisturizer, almost. Lastly, it made my skin feel clean. Like, every bit of makeup is removed from the skin and your pores can breathe again. You still need to wash your face afterwards, of course, but you can survive a couple of hours with it lingering on the skin., unlike with bi-phase cleansers where you just want to splash your face with water asap to get rid of the greasiness.
Overall, this product isn't bad at all. It removes makeup effectively while also moisturizing the skin, making sure the skin is hydrated and feels smooth and baby butt-like. I like that it's not greasy and doesn't irritate the eyes because I just HATE it when makeup removers do that. Plus points too for its cute but chic curvy packaging.
We're off to a good start, you guys.
