A cheaper alternative to Veet?

When it comes to leg hair removal, I've always loved using Veet. My leg hair is quite fine so I get away with not shaving it for a long time but there are times when I feel like having hairless legs (or when I have to wear short dresses and stuff). My go-to fix is Veet because it's affordable, easily available, and easy to use, plus when my leg hair regrows, they don't feel thicker or rougher. Can't recommend this product enough! (PS. I already featured Veet here on the blog so check that post out!)

So far, I haven't seen an alternative to Veet so imagine my surprise when I saw OMG's own version of a hair removal cream! I thought I'd give it a go to see if it's a good local alternative to Veet. I mean for the price of Php99, how could I not? So here are my thoughts!

The OMG Hair Removal Cream is "formulated for fast, soothing, and safe removal of stubborn unwanted hair in both men and women." Apparently, it is suitable for arms, underarms, legs, and even the bikini line. They also say that the cream is enriched with aloe vera leaf anti-oxidants enhanced by the extracts of sunflower and jojoba seed oils. It also has a combination of purslane and allantoin that moisturize and softens skin for that silky feel.

Just like Veet, this cream also comes with a spatula. In terms of size, the OMG hair cream only comes in one size: 60g. I always get the smallest tube of Veet (25g) which is around the Php150-200 bracket so in terms of price per tube, the OMG one is definitely a better deal.

Consistency-wise, both products are creamy and spreads easily. I feel like Veet is a tiny bit thicker which makes application and removal easier. Both creams have a chemical undertone in their scent but I gotta say that OMG has this distinct "chemicals-in-a-salon" scent. You get used to it eventually but definitely use both creams in a well-ventilated room.

My leg hair situation.

A generous amount of the OMG hair cream.

Sorrynotsorry for this grubby photo 😝

Now this is where it gets tricky. With Veet, it is stated in the packaging that you start "shaving" 3 minutes after applying the layer of cream. With OMG, the instruction says not to leave the product for more than 10 minutes- that's it. So I experimented- 3 minutes, 5 minutes, and 7 minutes. I'll spare you the hairy comparison photos but the best times when I got the best shaves were the 5 and 7 minutes.

After applying a generous amount, I was able to shave about I'd say 80% of the hair. There were spots that were stubborn so I had to go back, reapply, and shave. I did this process thrice until I got cleanest shave I could achieve. There were still spots that didn't want to come off so I just shaved them off with a razor (which kinda defeats the point, if you ask me).

Pros:
-affordable for the amount of product you get
-since a tube holds quite a hefty amount of product, you get to be generous with application, plus you can easily reapply the product without fear of running out
-spreads easily
-leaves the skin soft! I was so surprised to find my legs feeling soft and supple!

Cons:
-doesn't really shave all hairs in one go so you have to go back and do it all over again
-the scent is quite strong- you've been warned
-it doesn't shave deep so expect your hair to grow back quickly. I felt stubble on my legs 4 days after shaving.

So in conclusion: Personally, I feel like Veet does a better job in hair removal so I remain Team Veet but I can't disregard the fact that OMG performed better as I expected. OMG is just more time and product consuming than Veet but it's definitely more pocket-friendly and OMG left my skin more soft and moisturized. So I guess it just comes down to preference, how often you need to shave, and how much you're willing to spend, plus what's available, of course.
