Why the Face Shop’s Daily Beauty Tools Pro Eyelash Curler Was a Letdown
It's a "it's you, not me" kind of situation, you know?
As far as lash curlers go, I have to say that Shu Uemura's is definitely one of the best. Yes, it is pricier than most but to be fair, it is worth every penny. My sister gave me mine years ago and she may have significant wear but she's still up and running on her second rubber pad. My lashes are your typical straight and stubborn Asian ones and this one curls them effortlessly and quickly. Recently, though, I've noticed that the rubber pad's feeling tougher/harder than usual, making it hard to curl my lashes. It's my last rubber pad replacement too so it's a bummer that I can't replace it! So while I scour online platforms for new ones, I thought I'd take this time to venture out and try a new curler. I've had my eye on a few local curlers but I ultimately ended up getting one from The Face Shop!
The Daily Beauty Tools Pro Eyelash Curler is described as an "easy-to-use eyelash curler that is designed to pick up even the smallest lashes to create the perfect curled lash." It claims to deliver a dramatic and long-lasting curl, thanks to its broad curve that is able to curl each lash and leave them firmly lifted and curled.
I got mine on sale from KosmeticPH on Shopee for only ₱99 (regularly priced at ₱225!)
The Face Shop's Pro Eyelash Curler looks like your regular lash curler, similar to Shu Uemura's, Shiseido's, and Sephora's. It has a silver body with a black replaceable rubber pad. However, there is one difference: the width of the curler head of The Face Shop's is wider! One problem I have with the Shu Uemura curler is that it feels a little narrow and that it has a tendency to pinch my eyelid from time to time. With The Face Shop curler, it gets almost all my lashes inside without pinching my skin! I was genuinely surprised at how wide the curler is and was able to curl my lashes comfortably.
Now let's get to the performance of the curler. Well, I hate to say it but....this curler was a let down. I saw potential at first because the rubber pad was more on the tough side (which I prefer because I find that pads that have a bit of resistance to them curl better) but when it came to the actual curling, I had to do several passes to get the curl I wanted. I also found myself pinching my lashes harder and longer than usual- to the point where I thought I'd chop my lashes off!. I know my lashes are sick straight and stubborn as hell but I didn't experience this battle with my Shu Uemura lash curler (and even with my Urban Decay one tbh). For a second, I thought I didn't know how to use an eyelash curler because it was doing nothing to my lashes! I had to get back to my old and trusty Shu Uemura curler to prove that the problem wasn't me or my lashes; it was definitely the curler. Also, after using it a few times, the rubber pad's now soft- the kind I hate, and it's definitely making lash curling extra hard.
I've given this lash curler several chances to redeem itself, really tried to make it work but unfortunately, it's just not working for me. It's just not working as well as I hoped and honestly, I'm just scared that I'll cut my lashes off if I keep using this. I find that the only redeeming factor of this curler is its wide opening that gets all the lashes in and that's that. This curler isn't worth getting, especially if you have straight stubborn lashes like me. I guess I'd just have to look for another, one that has a wide curling head and actually curls my lashes! Well, that or just get Shu Uemura replacement rubber pads haha!
