The search for a new lash curler continues.
After the disappointment that was the Face Shop lash curler, I went back to my old Shu Uemura curler. I mean, I had no choice since my supposed replacement didn't work! However, since I'm not a quitter, I decided to get one more lash curler to make things right again. This time, I made sure to get the lash curler I've been eyeing for a long time, one that's talked about and advertised the most on local PH TikTok: the infamous Glamfix Maxi Curl Lash Curler!
The Maxi Curl Lash Curler is "designed specifically to curl eyelashes and give volume to the eyelashes so that it makes it easier to apply mascara." It is equipped with strong and soft silicone pads that help achieve a pinch-free 3x Hyper C-Curl that lasts for 16 hours.
This product is vegan and cruelty-free and retails for ₱395 (but I only got mine ₱125 during the 10.10 sale last year! But don't worry, this mascara's always priced below 200 on regular days!)
For an affordable curler, this sure has weight to it! I got a bit surprised at how hefty this curler was, at least when compared to my other curlers. This curler feels durable and sturdy, thanks to its rust-free carbon steel body, plus since the handles are double-lined, they aren't slippery to hold and have a good grip to it. The rubber pad that comes with it, as well as the extra pad, have the perfect hardness to them. I hate rubber pads that are too soft since they rarely curl my lashes, while too hard pads can be painful. Glamfix's have the perfect thickness and resistance to them that make curling easy and fast.
On paper, the Maxi Curl Lash Curler should be the curler I'm looking for. It's an affordable curler that effectively curls my stubborn Asian lashes. However, there's one caveat: it's not a good fit for my almond eyes. See, this curler has a deep arched curve to it so compared to my Shu Uemura curler, the Maxi Curl Lash Curler has more of a "C" curve to it- a shape that's a better match for round and deep set shaped eyes- instead of a "(" curve. A "C"-curved curler on my almond eyes means that when I curl my lashes, most of my lashes in the middle are curled while the ones on the sides (especially the inner ones) aren't as defined or as lifted, resulting in an irregular curl. Also, with this type of shape, most of the pressure when curling is on the center part so it can get quite painful on that middle area when I curl more than twice. There was a time when I curled my lashes repeatedly and ended up with nicely curled lashes but a sore eyelid. Ouch!
C shape aside, this curler was actually a nice one to use. It curls effectively and quickly and the curl actually stays for a long time. It also didn't feel like it would cut my lashes off even if I curl heavily (but also, like, don't). So yes, ultimately, this is a really good affordable curler, especially if you have round/doll-eyes. I've also heard that this is a good dupe for the Paulash Curl Supreme so if you're looking for an affordable alternative, this one's worth checking out. But worry not, co-almond eye peeps, good thing Glamfix has another curler in their repertoire: one that has a wider arc and potentially a better match for our eye shape. But that's a post for another time. Let me just order it first. BRB!
