Hydrating Tint: Guerlain KissKiss Roselip in Wonder Violette
For the tinted balm lovers.
Happy 2017, dear readers! I hope you had a wonderful time during the holidays. Hope you lot stuffed yourselves with food, drinks, and a ton of good time. I was in a festive mood quite early, hence the lack of posts; eek, sorry! But don't worry, now that the holidays are over, I'll be able to post more content here...hopefully.
My first post for 2017: a lip product review.
The Guerlain KissKiss Roselip line has 6 shades and was first released back in the fall season of 2015. These tinted lip balms are supposed to be hydrating and plumping while also giving the lips a subtle wash of color and shine. According to Guerlain's website, the lip balms are infused with rose extract, jojoba oil, and hyaluronic acid.
Apparently, the colors in the Roselip line were inspired by the "delicate hues of freshly hatched roses"; no wonder the shades are very soft and feminine! Here I have Wonder Violette, quite possibly the darkest shade in the line. It may look quite dark on the tube, but don't let that fool you as the product is sheer and not at all like a regular lippie! Before I dive into the color, let's just talk about the packaging for a second. Don't the white and gold combination make this tube look so luxurious? It's just simple but it has a certain impact that makes you really sure that it's not just a lip product from the drugstore. I also quite like the subtle design and the brand engraving on the tube cap, with the brand logo on the gold top! Such a classy way to house a product.

Now that I've fangirled over the packaging, let's move on to the color. As you can see, Wonder Violette isn't really a plum color but it's more of a delicate sheer red. As you can see from the swatch above, you can really build up the color so it's more red or just apply it once so you have a sheer wash of color. The color is good but I must admit, I think it suits those with unpigmented lips. See, my lips have dark edges and with this color, I don't know, I feel like something looks off. Since it's sheer, there are areas on my lips that are darker and areas where the color just pops. So yeah, just a little heads up of you have dark-ish pigmented lips.
As for the formula, it feels like a luxurious lip balm. Instead of tacky/sticky, this feels slick on the lips. It's like a high shine lip gloss without the sticky feel. However, I feel like it doesn't really get absorbed. Like the product is just sitting on top of my lips and its just there, not getting absorbed at all. I don't know if it's just Wonder Violette or it's the whole line but yeah, that's a little observation.
Single layer
Layered
Wonder Violette feels comfortable on the lips but since it's quite a slick product with a sheer color, it has the tendency to cling on to dry patches and I gotta say, it can be noticeable. Also, while the color builds up into this lovely shade of red-pink, when you layer it too much, the product kind of floods on the lips, like on the layered pic above. When the product floods, it tends to go out of the perimeters of the lips and can look like a mess. You can get away with it when using lighter colors but with a shade like Winder Violette, you have to be careful not to put on too much.
Overall, this is quite a good product, especially for those who are looking for a product that's dual purpose: hydrating and gives a sheer color to the lips. It's also a good one if you're not into the sticky/tacky feel of lip balms as it feels slippery on the lips instead. This isn't for those who are into lip products with opaque, long-lasting formulas because this gets smeared easily. Again, this is a lip balm, not a lipstick so don't be surprised if it turns out sheer, okay?
