Lighter and Brighter with Issy True Flex Adjuster in White
Let's do a quick shade adjustment, shall we?
Nowadays, its common to go online shopping for a base product like a foundation or a skin tint because most of the time, they're on sale. We all do our best to get the closest shade match available but sometimes, the base we choose can either end up one or two shades lighter or darker in person. I can't count the number of times I've experienced this, especially in the past, and honestly, it's too wallet-breaking for me to keep making this mistake! And though over the years I have gotten better with shade matching online, I still sometimes get victimized by bases that are a perfect shade match but ends up oxidizing- which is yet another problem and bummer! So if you're on the same boat as me, let me share with you how I deal with 'em!
If you have a lot of darker bases and you don't know what to do with them nor do you want to get rid of them, fret not because I have a quick solution! Here I have my new fave base essential, Issy's True Flex Adjuster in White! If you didn't know, Issy's Adjusters are mixing pigments that help in "tuning existing shades and engineering new ones". The True Flex Adjusters are also described as "cost-effective and sustainable solutions that expand the suitability and range of fluid products already available in one's vanity".
The True Flex Adjuster line is formulated with skin-loving ingredients such as Purslane Extract, which is rich in anti-oxidants and anti-aging and anti-inflammatory properties; and Aloe Leaf Juice, that soothes and calms the skin. These products are vegan, cruelty- and fragrance-free, and non-comedogenic. The True Flex Adjusters come in 6 shades and retail for ₱349 for 15ml.
The particular True Flex Adjuster I'll be featuring in this post is in White, the very one I use to alter my darker bases to make them match perfectly to my skintone! Honestly, this Adjuster is a game changer because it makes all my dark bases (yes, including concealers!) lighter, plus I don't have to worry anymore if I got a dark shade because I have this to correct it anyway, anytime!
Exhibit A: I bought my Strokes Soft Veil Filter Foundation in Deep 03 during summertime when I was tanned. Come July, Deep 03 looking's a little too dark! Enter the White Flex Adjuster, who made Deep 03 a few shades lighter with a few drops! Magic!
Exhibit B: For blogging purposes, I used Maybelline's Fit Me Fresh Tint in 06, a matte full-coverage tint. With a few drops, 06 became a few shades lighter- one that's pretty close to my current skintone!
The True Flex Adjusters in general have a thin and runny consistency (just like their correctors!) which makes mixing them with any base easy and quick. Since they get everywhere easily, I personally like using a palette or mixing plate whenever I mix them with my bases just so they're easier to manage.
As for coverage, you'd think the White is opaque and paint-like based on what you see from the tube but turns out, its coverage is on the lighter side! One drop won't be enough to alter a darker base significantly; you'd need more! For example, when I mixed the White Adjuster to take my Strokes Foundation a few shades lighter, it took me around 10 drops to get it to my closest shade match. I find its light coverage a good thing because this means I get to tune my shade little by little and avoid product wastage.
Personally, I have only tried my Adjusters with liquid foundations and concealers but according to Issy, they can also be used on cream products. So far, the Adjuster doesn't separate from any base I've used it with nor did it alter a base's consistency. Aside from bases and concealers, you can also use this to lighten up liquid blushes, bronzers, and contours!
A little reminder though: the White adjuster can only lighten any liquid or cream product. It cannot alter a product's tone and undertone. A warm base will remain warm, a neutral base will remain neutral even with this adjuster. If your problem is altering a base's tone, I suggest checking out their other Adjuster shades, such as the Blue, Pink, or Yellow.
If you ask me if it's worth getting the True Flex White Adjuster, I'd say 100%! I love that it doesn't alter a base's consistency and texture and more importantly, I love that I can adjust any dark base I have which is very money and clutter saving! If there's any con to this product line, I'd say that it's the packaging. For such a runny product, I don't know why they chose a soft plastic tube WITHOUT a stopper! Every time I use this or my corrector, I always make sure I tip it just enough to get a few product out or else it'll just run out of the bottle. I really wish this came in a harder tube with a pump so it's easier to use with minimal mess. But everything else? Fantastic!
