A Special Party

by - Monday, December 13, 2010

Yesterday, I attended a Christmas party. Not just any Christmas party but it's a gathering organized by my rheumatoid doctor, Dr. Christine Bernal, for all her patients who have Lupus. At long last, I was able to see patients who are as old as me. Thankfully, a former schoolmate of mine, Ariane, was there too.

We went to the auditorium first where we watched an organization of orphans play instruments like violin, guitar, beatbox, and banjos. After, Dr. Bernal said her opening remarks, the emcee told us the outline of our event. All patients will head to the cafeteria while parents will stay in the auditorium. Since I have no idea what happened to them, here's what happened to us.
After introducing ourselves, we only had one activity: hat decorating. We all worked on our own hats and all materials where provided. There were ribbons, glitters, sequins, flowers, and a lot more. What really bummed me was the glue they provided. The glue can't stick the decorations! Ugh. Total bummer. Another bummer: I wasn't able to eat ice cream! I was too busy decorating my hat, haha.

See this three-ribboned hat? Yeah that's mine.
Several minutes later...
We had a group photo where we all wore our hats. What a priceless moment. After the activity, time to eat!

I love how my hat looks so fantastic here. /sarcasm
The classic children's party food. I love McDonald's but I prefer spaghetti/burger and spaghetti/chicken. The parents, however, ate spaghetti/hamburger. -.-" They also gave us delicious chocolate cupcakes. When we finished our food, we went to the auditorium again where we decorated a small Christmas tree with laminated memo pads where we wrote our 2011 wishes. While waiting, Ariane and I camwhored.

Random photo. Lolz
When everyone was in the auditorium already, there watched some presentations. There were song numbers, a video presentation, and a dance number presented by nuns. These nuns are patients of my doctor's colleague/teacher.

A song number by the doctors who participated in the event.
Me and my doctor

Before going home, my parents and I roamed around. We say the school's Christmas tree, their church, the law building, and a lot more.

And of course a children's party isn't complete without goodies! Here are some of the stuff I received.

I totally had me eyes on this cute toy. Fortunately, it was given to me at random. Named her Chimney. (I love that name.)
Erasers and paper clippers (Not hairclips, I swear!)
Scented erasers
Got this when my name got picked in a mini raffle.
A loot bag with lollipops, jelly ace, M&Ms, Oreos, wafer, and candies.
I had a lot of fun. I realized how lucky I was even if I had the same condition. I saw little kids, and when I think about it, I can't help but be thankful that my lupus was detected when I was 15. At least I had my fair share of fun when I was a kid, no medications, no tests. But at least doctors and specialists are working on a possible cure. It's a source of hope.

PS. If you're wondering what happened to my hat when we got home, here it is.
