Huffin' and Puffin' with Kloss Beauty Everyday Skin Moisturizing Foundation in Honey Puff
Oh, honey.
Hello, I'm back!! So sorry for the hiatus. I don't know why but I just didn't have the motivation and energy to blog and honestly, I blame TikTok. Yes, I've been in different TikTok rabbit holes these past few weeks which also made me think of whether I should take beauty blogging in that platform instead and leave this blog behind. However, I feel like TikTok is made for short videos and being the talkative blogger that I am, I find that I can say more here. So, after a few weeks of mulling it over, I've come up with a solution: longer, in depth reviews here, first impressions/ short clips over there.
During my hiatus, I got a couple of new makeup to try. Both from local brands, both base products. So let's start with the first one I got, shall we?
I do have a list of bases I want to try but when I saw this, I knew I had to try it right away. Kloss Beauty isn't a new brand to me since I've purchased three of their bullet lippies, as well as their sunscreen (review coming soon!) so I was pretty stoked when I saw that they have a new product: foundation!
This is Everyday Skin, "an oil-free moisturizing foundation combining makeup, skincare and SPF into one step." It claims to have a sheer but buildable to medium coverage and has a semi-matte finish.
Its formula also has actives, namely Niacinamide (helps in oil control and inflammation and eases redness and pore appearance), and Hyaluronic Acid (hydrates the skin and helps reduce fine lines and wrinkles overtime).
Everyday Skin is cruelty and paraben free. It retails for Php249 for a 20ml bottle.
Everyday Skin is housed in a glass bottle with a pump. Its packaging is fine with me but there's one thing that's bothering me: the cap! I don't know why they have to do the cap gladiator helmet-style but I'm so not into it- sorry!
Everyday Skin comes in 4 shades: Sweet Cream and Butter for fair shades, Honey Puff for a light-medium shade, and Caramello, a neutral medium-deep. I went for Honey Puff since I am a medium skintoned gal. Honey Puff, initially, is an almost perfect match. It's a bit lighter than my Sunglow by Fresh Tinted Sunscreen but it's still wearable. HOWEVER, Honey Puff has a little naughty trick up her sleeve- just keep reading.
For an affordable base, Everyday Skin sure surprised me. Texture-wise, this base has a texture that's in between a foundation and a tinted moisturizer- thin but not drippy . It was quite easy to spread and blend out on the skin and it feels lightweight as well. Appearance once, I like how it makes my skin look glowy but not too shiny. So yes, the semi-matte claim is quite true.
Here's a side by side of one layer and two layers of Everyday Skin. One layer is okay but I feel like it's a little uneven and sheer. I also noticed this foundation clung to some dry areas/patches of my face. Two layers definitely evens out everything and builds up the coverage more.
I also wore this foundation (set with a powder, of course) for around 6 hours and surprisingly, it's pretty good with oil control! My face usually needs blotting by the fourth hour but I didn't need to with this base. Even after 6 hours, my face still looked matte and oil-free that I think I can still wear it for another 4 hours.
So, Everyday Skin is lightweight, provides a subtle glow on the skin, and has a buildable coverage- what's wrong with it? Well, my one main issue with it is that it OXIDIZES.
I've said before that Honey Puff is an almost perfect match for me- but only in the beginning. As it sets, it begins to turn into a darker, orangey hue that totally throws me off. I'm okay with a base setting or oxidizing. What I'm not okay with is when it sets orange. Like, ma'am, I don't need a spontaneous tan!!! Me and my neutral medium skin are shook!!
Here's a swatch where you can see how much Honey Puff oxidizes.
Here's a side by side on the face. To be honest, it's not too obvious on the photos but in real life, she's a little dark and salmon to miss. I am wearing two layers of Everyday Skin on the photos above and if I go for more layers, I will honestly turn to an Oompa Loompa.
See, Honey Puff oxidizing is a pity because it's already a nice shade! I rarely have bases oxidizing on me so honestly, I don't know what to do. Should I buy it in the shade Butter and mix it with Honey Puff? I tried setting it with light yellow-toned powders and though it worked, a little orange hue is still peeking through. Maybe I should blend in a light concealer? So much experiment to do with this foundation!
In conclusion, I am quite torn with Everyday Skin. I love its lightweight formula and how good it makes my skin look. However, it oxidizing is something I can't look past at. I bought Honey Puff for the shade Kloss Beauty advertises, not the darker shade it turns into. I don't know if the other shades oxidizes like this as well but just remember that when purchasing this base.
