Payot Le Basique Hydratant Discovery Kit: Gommage Intense Fraîcheur
Exfoliating cream with cranberry extracts. Product 2 of 3.
If there’s one exfoliant I would repurchase over and over
again, it would be the Clarins Gentle Refiner Exfoliating Cream. I may only
have the sample sized version of it but that is seriously enough to impress me.
I absolutely love the way it makes my skin super soft, clean, and smooth
afterwards. If it wasn’t pricey, I’d purchase 10 full sized bottles in one go.
(Okay, maybe not like 10, but you get what I mean.) I have been searching for
the closest dupe for it but to no avail. Here I have another exfoliant who’s up
for the challenge. Will it finally beat my OG fave?
This is the Gommage Intense Fraîcheur. Its product description states that it's "an intensive facial exfoliator with micro-beads for removing make-up, impurities and dead cells in one single movement revealing a glowing complexion. One of the most refreshing intensive exfoliators!" It is also stated that like the demaquillant, it is suited for all skin types.
This exfoliant has the most active or "star" ingredients among the products in the kit. It has Cranberry extracts (has high amounts of Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5 and antioxidants that help in slowing premature aging; helps to treat the oily skin as it is acidic by nature); Pineapple extract (has vitamin C, bromelain and antioxidants, extremely beneficial in the treatment and prevention of acne, fine lines, sun damaged and uneven skin toning); Malachite extract (has anti-free radical properties that help protect cellular structures); Smithsonite extract (has antioxidants); Exfoliating agents; and Cleansing agents.
Unlike the demaquillant and the moisturizer, this doesn’t
have the milky texture they have. The exfoliant comes in the form of an orange
fluid that’s not too thin nor too thick. This exfoliant isn’t too packed with
the microbeads, I find. I feel like this product is about 60% liquid with 40%
microbeads. This definitely feels like a facial wash in terms of consistency;
well, at least when compared to the Clarins that’s quite thick. Scent-wise,
this doesn’t have the distinct milky fruity scent as the demaquillant and the
moisturizer. Either cranberry and pineapple don’t go well together or the
mineral extracts just cancelled the fruity extracts. It doesn’t smell bad; it
just doesn’t smell that fruity.
It’s quite easy to use, really. Since it’s fluid, a small bean-like amount of product is enough to exfoliate the whole face area and you can join the neck too. I find that the beads are great for every skin type as they are abrasive enough to cleanse and exfoliate but gentle enough to not tear your skin and suck the moisture out of it. They’re also not the instant melt-type of beads so you can rub and exfoliate a few minutes longer.
After using it, I find that this product didn’t give me the baby butt-smoothness the Clarins exfoliant gives me but it did make my skin feel clean, like all impurities are scrubbed and washed away. It kind of stripped moisture off my face too, though. Not a lot, but just enough to make me reach for a moisturizer to bring back some hydration on my face, especially to my dry patches.
Is it good enough to replace the OG fave? Well, I have to say that the Clarins Exfoliating Cream is still the reigning champ, at least in my books anyway. Don’t get me wrong- Payot’s exfoliant is a good product; the Clarins Gentle Refiner just impressed me more. If you’re into exfoliants for the main purpose of cleansing, then you’re going to like this. You’ll like how easy it is to use and how a little product goes a long way. You’ll also get on with the beads, especially if you have sensitive skin. Just don’t expect it to be super moisturizing; guess that’s what the next product is for!
