Part 4.

(Click here for Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3.)

The second to the last place we went to was Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the holiest temple in Ayutthaya before the city's destruction in 1767. It consists of three Chedis, 2 of which was built in 1492 under King Ramathibodi II (which also contains the ashes of King Borommatrailokkanat, and his brother's remains, King Borommaracha III) and the other one was built in 1529 under King Borommaracha IV.

Wat Phra Si Sanphet's restoration work started in 1956.

We were also able to go to the viharn (or worship hall) of Phra Mongkhon Bophit, one of the largest bronze Buddha images in Thailand and one of the few statues that survived the Burmese attack. Phra Mongkhon Bophit's construction was estimated between 1448-1602AD.

And that's it for Wat Phra Si Sanphet! I'm so glad we were able to go inside the viharn and see Phra Mongkhon Bophit in all its glory.

Next and final stop: Wat Chaiwatthanaram!
