Next on my mom's makeup routine: liner!

(Click here to check out Mom's current brow pencils!)

As far as liners go, Mom prefers black gel retractable pencils because for her, they're easy to use and pretty much stays put on her eyes all day. Her favorite gel pencils so far are the ones from Vice Cosmetics, specifically the Anne Clutz ones. She gone through so much of those pencils and keeps on telling me to buy her more when they go on sale. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get my hands on those pencils so I searched the L app (or is it the O app?) for alternatives and stumbled upon this pencil from Bayfree!

Bayfree is a brand I'm a bit familiar with since their products, specifically the brow mascaras, trended once upon a time on TikTok. I don't know much about their products but the gel pencil is my first purchase from them!

I got the Ultra-fine Gel Eyeliner, a retractable no-tug eyeliner pen whose "intense pigment covers like a liquid eyeliner while its creamy formula holds for hours". It claims to be waterproof, smudgeproof, long-wearing, and quick drying.

This product is vegan and cruelty-free and is available in 2 shades: brown and black. Each pencil contains 0.3g of product and retails for ₱149.

The pencil is just like other retractable pencils that has a thin body that's easy to grip and maneuver. One thing I like about this liner's packaging is its color! That bold silver color is not only eye-catching, it also makes this liner easy to find! I mean, I do love a good sleek black packaging but looking for them in my bag or stash is a challenge haha!

Here's the pencil in Black. Right off the bat, I can say that this isn't the most intense black pencil I've ever used or encountered. However, this kind of black is perfect for anyone who's a beginner in makeup or lining the eyes. This black isn't intimidating and can help you sketch out your line first, especially if you want to practice winged liner. It's a nice kind of black that you can use for everyday, you know? But if you want a richer, more intense black, you'll need to layer this liner for sure.

This liner also boasts of its 1.5mm ultra fine tip which makes this liner so easy to use especially to those with small eyes! This tip is perfect because with it you can achieve a fine line on your eyes and even achieve a sharp wing! This is also perfect if you want to practice your winged liner because you can pretty much draw anything with precision with it.

As for texture, this pencil is a bit drier than Vice's. My main issue with Vice's Anne Clutz pencil is that it's too creamy which makes it prone to breaking. Even while lining my eyes, that pencil will just break off. Bayfree's feel sturdier, in my opinion. With this pencil, I can line my eyes with ease and can even layer the line to intensify the opacity of this product. Not once did this liner break off on me so that's good!

In addition to that, it's true that this is a no tug liner. It glides on smoothly and doesn't feel scratchy on the eyes, As I said before, this doesn't have an intense pigment so you need to do at least two layers to have a decent black color. Even though I had to layer it, the liner didn't become patchy or even lift up, which was nice. I also tried it on my waterline and I'm glad to say that it applied on smoothly and surprisingly didn't transfer too much on my lower lashline.

Having said that, I have found a few downsides of this liner. Firstly, this liner doesn't seem to fully set, which makes it not budge-proof. Even after giving it a few minutes to dry down, it still transferred to my lash curler when I curled my lashes. While this is normal, it's kind of a let down when almost 80% of your liner just transferred to your curler, you know?

Secondly, this liner is more water-resistant that waterproof. I tested this out by rubbing my eyes with a bit of water and some of the liner came off. It thankfully didn't come off as chunks but as layers, if you get what I mean? So even if you accidentally rub your eyes, you'll still have a faint layer of liner left.

    Is this pencil worth getting?

If you're looking for an everyday liner that's affordable and easy to control, then sure. However, if you're looking for a liner that'll last for hours, won't budge even if you go swimming, and can only be removed by a cleansing oil or a bi-phase makeup remover, then I suggest you go for something else. Personally, I still prefer Vice's gel liners in terms of longevity and intensity (even though its very creamy formula stresses me out). But if you're a beginner, Bayfree's may be worth checking out if you want or need a pencil that's not that intimidating but easy to work with.

Also quick note: this package too quite a while to arrive: it arrived 8 days after I placed my order. I know it's an international package (AND with only 2 items in it???) and all but my last international package arrived after five days- just saying! So yeah, if you do place an order in Bayfree's online store on the L or O app, just keep in mind it'll take a while to arrive.

And that's for the eyes! I'll see you soon for the last part of this series: lips!
