Mat Spritz: Spoiled by Oils Namaspray
.
Cleaning my workout mat is something I do religiously. I mean, with all the sweating I do on it, it's guaranteed to be filthy and gross and not cleaning it would be just all kinds of wrong. I do the simplest thing to clean my mat: I hose it down with water (room temp or lukewarm) and leave it to dry on a shaded place. I've read somewhere that cleaning your mat with water is not only best way to clean it, but it's also the safest and cheapest way. Workout mats are made with a certain material and the less you clean it with chemicals, the better. It also helps that you don't let it dry directly under the sun. I've been cleaning my mats this way ever since I started working out and so far, my mats are stll intact. I do it every 4 days (okay, don't judge. I don't like cleaning my mats everyday when I know it'll be filthy again the next day. Hosing your mat everyday isn't ideal too, you know.) and when it dries, it's ready again for another 4 days. Just brilliant.
Today I just want to share a product that I've recently included in my exercise mat cleaning routine. This was a spontaneous purchase mainly because I've been so intrigued with yoga mat sprays that I wanted to try out one too. The product I have is Namaspray, from the local brand Spoiled by Oils.
I already showed this product in a past haul but I wanted to use it for a good number of days to really get to know it. Here's a little product description of Namaspray, as seen in the BeautyMNL site:
"CLAIM TO FAME: A purposive spray that helps control odors and germs
FAST FACTS: Purges bacteria on yoga mat through anti bacterial essential oils; contains tea tree oil to eliminate bacteria; infused with lavender, peppermint, and vanilla for an uplifting scent; packaged in an amber spray bottle; made with all-natural ingredients and essential oils
PERFECT FOR: Yogis and yoginis"
Packaging is very cute and it looks like a handmade product than a machine-produced one. I don't know the company's production of this but the packaging has that homey, handmade, homemade feel that I really like. It's sleek and simple and cute. Plus points for the fine mist it sprays too. I like that it doesn't spray blotches of product all over my mat.
Scent-wise, I find that the most dominant scent is lavender, followed by the cooling scent of peppermint. The vanilla adds a sweet note to the overall scent but it's definitely faint and quite hard to detect. This blend is definitely a calming scent, perfect for relaxing stretches and flows.
What I like about this product is that it doesn't just make your mat smell good, it also disinfects it. That's why I like using it after I hose my mat down. This sort of acts like a double cleanser in a way. I have no proof that it really cleans my mat but when I spray it and it dries down, my mat feels cleaner and fresher. It doesn't make my mat feel slippery or oily but it does make it feel cleaner. The scent isn't too powerful on the mat but it leaves a hint of scent.
The way to use this is to spray it on the mat, wipe it after a few seconds, and leave it to air dry. If you have no time to wipe it off, don't worry. You can just spray it all over and let it air dry. I do that most of the time and so far, my mat's still okay. No oily residue and no mat flaking, plus the scent seems to be stronger and lingers for a longer time.
I don't use this as a primary mat cleaner but it does work really well with my current cleaning routine. The water gets rid of the sweat residue and dirt while this out disinfects and fragrances the mat. Namaspray also isn't bombarded with harmful chemicals as it's made with three main ingredients: ethanol, purified water, and antibacterial essential oils, perfectly safe for my workout mats. I absolutely love that this product is affordable and effective, plus it's local made! Remember to always support local and have a nice yoga session. Namaste!
