A Sheer Golden Wash: Burberry Eye Colour Shadow in No. 001 Gold Pearl

Pale gold light.

This post is part of Backlog Beauty, a series of beauty reviews I should've published last year or the year before that but I didn't or wasn't able to. Most of the beauty products I'll be reviewing in Backlog Beauty are from previous collections that may or may not be available anymore.

I was checking out my single pan eyeshadows the other day when I realized that I forgot to blog one of them. Like, what?? Un-freaking-believable. But as they say, it's better late than never so here's my review of this Burberry shadow.

This is the Burberry Eye Colour in No. 001 Gold Pearl. Before I delve into the shadow itself, can we just take a moment to admire the shadow's beautiful packaging?? It's just so chic, definitely on brand for Burberry. The case feels sturdy and luxe, and check that classic Burberry tartan print on lid! Packaging's just *chef's kiss*, but then add the fact that the shadow has its own velvet pouch? *luxe chef's kiss*

However, the legit chef's kiss in the packaging is the magnetic snap of the lid. It's just so satisfying! Plus, the magnet's really got a strong grip so you can be assured that the shadow inside will be safe and sound no matter where this little box ends up in your bag or pouch. I also like that this case contains a small mirror inside and an applicator (which, let's be honest, I'll probably lose one day because I'm careless like that.)

Gold Pearl is a pale gold-beige shadow that I think is a bit frosty and a bit shimmery. I got this because I wanted to use it as more of a face highlighter but I realized that it's really better off as an eyeshadow. Also, Gold Pearl is a wet and dry shadow but for this post, I mainly used it dry.

Its texture is smooth and not chalky but not gonna lie, I've encountered more buttery shadows than this. I'd say it has a sheer coverage that's buildable to a medium, especially when used wet. Because of its coverage, I really think it's better off as a highlight, like on the browbone, tearducts, or in the middle of the lid. It's perfect for those who prefer their eye makeup light and minimal, ala Rosie HW.

I like that it's easy to blend on the eyes and it's such a nice brow bone highlight because it just catches the light delicately and lightly. The shimmers are ultra fine so no need to fret about chunks of glitter going rogue on your face throughout the day.

Now, I also tried using it as a cheek highlight and well, let's just say that it's not soft enough to be blended out as a cheek highlight. Plus, on my skintone, I had a hard time getting it to show, maybe because it's so light and sheer. Because it's a pale, almost cool yellow, it also looks quite off on my warm skintone. So yeah, I definitely shouldn't use it as a face highlighter, specially on me.

I don't even know if you can see Gold Pearl on my cheekbone, but it's there. :P

Last I heard, this shadow is already discontinued (boo!) but upon checking out their current shadows, No. 100 Porcelain of the Eye Colour Silk line looks the closest to Gold Pearl, although it's more of a pale champagne than a pale gold. Really wish they didn't discontinue this!
