The Mattes You Need: Stila In The Know Palette

All matte.

This post is part of Backlog Beauty, a series of beauty reviews I should've published last year or the year before that but I didn't or wasn't able to. Most of the beauty products I'll be reviewing in Backlog Beauty are from previous collections that may or may not be available anymore.

If there was a palette that I wanted most back in 2015/6, it's the Stila In The Know palette. Back then, I was partial to matte shadows and this palette not just hit that, it also contained one of my most fave shade: a warm orange red eyeshadow. In The Know just looked so appealing to me because the shade range of this palette is just beautiful, a mix of warm and cool toned shadows that just work well together and with the other shadows I already have in my stash. This palette, that time, was *the* one for me back then.

I have no idea what took me this long to feature this here in Shash Stash (actually I do: it took me a while to actually use it. I was so torn on whether to preserve it or not! But alas, I chose to enjoy this palette because it'd be such a waste not to.) but nevertheless, here is my feature on this beautiful (and unfortunately discontinued) palette.

PS. Photos in this blog (except for the swatches and EOTD) were shot a few months after I got the palette. (Read: yes, these photos are old but they're good photos if I say so myself so I'm gonna use them anyway!)

Product description: "Stila’s original matte shades are back in this beautiful collection of eye shadows in universally flattering shades. The In the Know eye shadow palette contains 10 matte shades of Stila’s award-winning eye shadows that flatter every skin tone and can be worn wet or dry. The palette also includes an exclusive Smudge Stick Waterproof Eye Liner in Halfmoon, a matte charcoal grey shade, plus an eight-page look book with detailed application tips and tricks."

L-R: Air (a light beige), Wind (a soft peach), Desert (a soft tan with a wam undertone), Clay (a warm light brown with a pink-ish undertone), and Earth (a deep chocolate brown)

L-R: Driftwood (a midtone brown), Fire (a warm brick red), Rain (a light taupe), Smoke (a charcoal grey), and Ebony (a matte black).

I've worked with different matte shadows in the past and I gotta say, the mattes here in this palette are still my favorite to use. They're just so pigmented and smooth and they blend better than other matte shadows. I absolutely love the shade range in this palette not only are they flattering on most skintones, the shadows are a mix of warm and cool tones. I also love that you have an unconventional pop of color (Fire) to mix up your everyday look. If you're expecting chalky mattes, well, you won't find them here. These mattes right here are a dream to work with!

Here's an eye look I did with this palette. I used Desert on my lids, Rain on the crease, a little bit of Driftwood on the outer v, and Fire on my lower lid. (If you can't already tell, I'm obsessed with Fire.) Lastly, I used Ebony as a liner.

Since this is an all-matte mostly nude palette, the shadows work with the other shadows I have in my stash really well. I've used them as a base, as a crease shade, as a blending shade, as a main shadow- this palette's just versatile as heck. So glad I have this in my stash! And I'm so glad that it's now featured here in SS. A little late, but here nonetheless. :)
