Nail of the Week: Guerlain by Emilio Pucci Terracotta Vernis in 02 Riviera

by - Sunday, July 20, 2014

Hey everyone! Hope you're all doing fine, with the typhoons and power outage and all. Thought I'd throw something colorful to counter the grey skies. Nope, it's not pastel or neon. It's metallic. Sort of.

I got Riviera last year in Singapore during the annual Luxasia sale. I was one of the lucky ones to experience that. I loved it so much I went twice, on the first day (with my sister) and two days after that. It was definitely crazy and overwhelming but exciting too because high end cosmetics are more affordable than usual. Affordable Burberry lipsticks and Anna Sui nail polishes? SOLD. (Speaking of Anna Sui nail polishes, I did a review on one here. *wink, wink*)

Aside from the Anna Sui nail polish, the other polish I got was from Guerlain: Riviera. There was another shade available, a scarlet/coral shade, but I decided not to get it since I wasn't fond of the color. Now I ask myself why in the hell did I not get it. Sigh. Anyway, I got Riviera so yay!

The Emilio Pucci collection was released in 2012, so I guess this isn't that outdated or anything. Not sure if this shade is still available though. Speaking of shade, Riviera's baffle me. Sometimes it looks blue, sometimes violet, sometime indigo. Thanks to Temptalia, I finally I got: it's a blue-based violet. Quite complex huh? It's a blue-based violet polish with a subtle metallic finish and very fine glitter to add to the sparkle. I love it. It's a color that's unique and definitely a gem in my growing stash of nail polish. (Yes, it's growing!!)

Although I love the color and finish, I'm not a big fan of the formula. I don't know why but mine felt thick and gloopy after painting a few fingernails. Being the polish noob that I am, I shook the polish several times to thin it out; something you shouldn't do by the way because the bubbles that were formed will rise up on the bottle, and on your nails! Apparently, you should wait 30 minutes after shaking but I didn't so bubbles were formed, thus ruining my polish on my nails the first time. Luckily, I have a nail polish thinner on hand now so the bubbles are not as severe. I used two thin coats on the photo above. Riviera's a joy to work with when it's thin but a nightmare when it's thick.

Riviera's a nice polish but it's not the polish I'd reach for whenever I'm in the mood to quickly paint my nails. The shade made my hands look tanner so if you're into warming up your skintone, you'll like this. Since the formula thickens up quite quickly and it doesn't dry fast, you might need more time, effort, and patience when you use this. If you can't be bothered, just reach for something else.
